This is a part of painting series where I explore the act of creation as a method for affirming healing statements. In this piece, the characters each represent distinct parts of self that identified through Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapeutic work. IFS is grounded in the theory that we are each made up of a system of inner parts guided by a core Self. Through dialogue with and visualization of these parts, we can begin to understand, embrace, and assure these wounded or buried parts of our selves. The affirmation, "I am my own trusted guide," is one that has held significance as I step into a phase of life where I allow myself to be the trusted guide for my own life, and for my creative practice.
