Community Building with Curioko
A core part of my creative practice is bringing people together and creating community spaces where we can engage in play, mutual care, and connection. This work is collaborative and the result of wonderful partners and friends. Have an idea for a creative community gathering? Let’s chat.
Drink & Draw
SOMERVILLE, MA
Drink and Draw is an informal monthly community gathering over drinks and nostalgic drawing supplies. Drink and Draw invites people of all drawing and creative abilities to engage with their silliest self and childlike whimsy. Together, we generate wild prompts as a jumping off point for doodles, share stories through pictures, and connect with each other as human beings (nice!).
Co-facilitated by Meg Aki and Sam Toabe, Pocket Club is a pop-up community workshop focused on the history of pockets, their politics, gender, and utility. Many pants, shorts, and dresses–especially those designed for and marketed to femmes–do not have any pockets, or instead include small pouches that are more decorative than functional.
Through these workshops, we seek to highlight and subvert these inequities while enabling people to add bigger pockets (or pockets where there are none!) to their clothes using alteration, up-cycling, and mending techniques.
